Spring Cleaning

As spring approaches, many people get the spring cleaning bug, but it can be a daunting task to begin! Here are some ideas for refreshing your home this spring:

Out with the old, in with the new.

It's a great time to get rid of clothing and household items you're not using. Put things in three categories: sell, trash and donate. There are so many ways to connect with local buyers if you have items you can sell like Craigslist or letgo.com. Remember DFW non-profits depend on your donation of gently used items. You can donate clothes and more to organizations like the Genesis Women's Shelter Benefit Store, Operation Kindness, or Hope Supply Co.

Safety first.

Little maintenance details can build up over time and create dangerous situations in your home. Make a mini checklist of things to maintain periodically to make sure you and your family stay safe. Here are a few: check carbon monoxide and smoke detector batteries; test your home for radon; clean dryer lint from vents and ducts; and have your AC serviced.

Update your financial standing.

If you own a home, find out how much your home is worth and what other homes in your neighborhood are selling for. Whether you're thinking about selling or not, it's a good idea to stay on top of the hot DFW market. If you're renting, visit a loan officer and find out what you may qualify for. You could be surprised at what options are available!

Streamline.

Clearing the clutter is a great way to shake off the old year and prepare for the new. But a whole-house purge can be daunting and time consuming. Organizational experts recommend making smaller weekly or monthly goals. Organize your home one closet or cabinet at a time and enjoy each small victory on the path to a more stream-lined, organized home.
